🛏️ The Best Sleeping Positions During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, getting good sleep can feel like a real puzzle 🤰. The best position is on your left side 🥄: it improves circulation, relieves pressure in the legs, and brings more oxygen to your baby 🌱. On the other hand, lying on your back for too long is best avoided, as it can affect blood flow. For extra comfort, pillows are your best allies 💜: under your belly, between your knees, or behind your back—they turn your nights into a cozy cocoon ✨.

During pregnancy, finding a comfortable sleeping position can feel like a real challenge 🤰. Between a growing belly, back pain, and changes in circulation, some positions truly help… while others are best avoided.

💜 Sleeping on the left side: the “golden” position

This is the queen of positions, especially in the third trimester 👑:

  • Supports circulation → blood flows back to the heart more easily, reducing heavy legs and swelling.

  • Improves oxygen and nutrient supply to your baby 🌱.

  • Relieves pressure on the liver → making digestion more comfortable.

👉 Picture yourself in “spooning” 🥄 mode → it’s the gentlest posture for both you and your baby.

🚫 Avoid long stretches on your back

From the second trimester on—especially in the third—back sleeping can cause issues:

  • The uterus presses on a major vein (the vena cava), which may trigger dizziness, palpitations, or low blood pressure.

  • For baby, it can reduce placental blood flow.

👉 Of course, if you wake up on your back, don’t panic! It’s not a big deal occasionally. The key is to avoid staying that way for too long.

🌙 Pillows: your best allies

Pregnancy pillows (U-shaped, C-shaped, or long body pillows) are like giant arms wrapping around you 🤗. They can:

  • Support your back,

  • Cradle your belly,

  • Align your pelvis and hips,

  • Relieve circulation by placing one between your knees.

👉 Even without a special pillow, you can get creative with regular cushions under your neck, behind your back, or between your legs.

The result: more comfort and fewer interrupted nights.
